BTEA is all prepared to arrange the second edition of its ‘Saturday Market’!

In accordance with its efforts to set up the local tourism sector as well as puff up its contribution to the GDP, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) is all prepared to arrange the second edition of its ‘Saturday Market’. It will be organized every Saturday from 9AM to 12:30PM and from 2:00PM to 7:00PM. It would be starting from the 25th of January and will continue until the 22nd of March 2020, in Bab Al Bahrain, located at the heart of the Manama Souq. During the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix 2020, the Saturday Market will remain open for the visitors for four consecutive days.

 

With its focus on organizing a market where craftsmen can display as well as sell their handicrafts products, every winter, the ‘Saturday Market’ is arranged at Bab Al Bahrain with a focus on developing the handicrafts sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In 2020, the event will showcase 40 craftsmen expert in 25 crafts like basket weaving, traditional chests, wooden works, pottery, hand embroidery, henna design, dolls, carpets, cage-making, and crochet among others. Besides, the event will also have live traditional performances, traditional Bahraini food vendors, and separate activities and play areas for children.

 

“We look forward to hosting ‘Saturday Market’ which aims to create an ideal platform for craftsmen to showcase their unique products to tourists in Manama. With Manama being named the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2020, it is with great pride that we continue our efforts at BTEA to preserve these traditional professions for the future generations while developing the local tourism sector and increasing its contribution to the national economy,” said the Chief Executive Officer of BTEA, Mr. Nader Al Moayyed.

 

Besides displaying the work of local craftsman, the Saturday Market is also looking for enthusing Bahraini youths to take part in craft projects that would help in preserving the local handicrafts as a trade, unique to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

 

To give all participants that one chance to get the maximum exposure while driving the development of the tourism, the participating craftsmen will be alternated regularly throughout the duration of the event.
