The Kent Breakfast scheme, promoted jointly by Visit Kent and Produced in Kent, is encouraging the county’s B&Bs, hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes and everywhere else that serves breakfast to ensure that at least 60 per cent of ingredients are sourced from within the county.

Businesses signing up to the free scheme, and meeting the criteria for a Kent Breakfast, will receive marketing materials, enabling them to promote themselves to existing and potential guests as a user of locally sourced produce.

Self-catering providers are not missing out either. Kent Hampers full of local breakfast products are available to leave as welcome gifts for guests.

During October and November, hospitality and accommodation providers gathered at three Kent Breakfast workshops, held at The Ferry House Inn on the Isle of Sheppey; Quex Barn, Thanet; and Ightham Mote near Sevenoaks.

They were given advice on menu choices, extending seasonality and building relationships with local producers.

Guests at the three workshops also sampled typically Kentish breakfast ingredients.

“Feedback from the workshops has been really positive. It is very encouraging that local businesses are showing such an interest in the campaign,” said Sally Roger of Visit Kent.

Stephanie Durling of Produced in Kent added: “We were very pleased with how well received all three events were. We hope those who attended will follow-up by fully taking part in the scheme.”

The Kent Breakfast campaign is funded through Defra’s Rural Development Programme for England.

So far 46 businesses from across the county have signed up to deliver Kent Breakfasts or
Hampers to their guests.
