One of the busiest months in Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup history saw 25 personally-invited guests of Turkish Airlines from around the world book their place in Belek for the prestigious Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Grand Finals in October and November.
The month began with a whirlwind week as a Friday Saturday combination of Berlin and Accra kicked an exciting month off in style as Accra winner Jessica Bearls Tei holed an ace on her way to victory at Achimota Golf Club. Later that week, a triple-header took place in Honk Kong, Taipei and Lagos before a trip back to Ljubljana brought an end to a busy week. Mike Sladek (Belrin/Leipzig), Samuel Anadiegwu (Lagos), Thomas Ralph Zechel (Taipei) and Ernest Novak (Ljubljana) were the respective winners.
The next stage began in Nice as Pascal Bianco claimed the top prize at Terre Blanche. A 4 day stretch then saw the series hit 4 countries as Basel, Bologna, Jakarta and Colombo all played host to the world’s largest corporate amateur golf series.
Following a long trip east, it was time to head to the Americas and the bright lights of Los Angeles and Washington DC at Mountain Gate Country Club and Trump National Golf Club respectively made for a manic Monday. Sao Paulo played host the following day at the picturesque Sao Fernando Golf Club. The Americas Tour ended in San Francisco later in the week at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club.
Congratulations to Matt Peterson (Los Angeles), Mike Vanslette (Washington), Deborah Mackenzie (Sao Paulo) and Bill Morefield (San Francisco)
The rest of the month featured primarily European destinations. Dhaka, Casablanca and the inaugural Uruguayan event were the exceptions as Brigadier General Siddiqul Alam Sikder and Andres Scotti claimed the prizes.
Stops at Stuttgart, Brussels, Torino, Venice and Bordeaux ensured the month signed off with a flurry of new champions booking a late place on the plane to Belek.
October will round off a 7 month qualifying period with 6 events left before the Grand Finals field is set for Belek later in the month.
