By mid 2018, the grand Egyptian Museum will be inaugurated as confirmed by Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anany. He also says that ministry needs another LE2 billion to open 20 more museums which are closed in different governorates.
One of the key museums of Egypt, the Grand Egyptian Museum will shelter more than 100,000 artifacts of pharaonic age. Though under construction, International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr said that in the coming years the museum will be one of the biggest museums in the world. He also said that it will contribute to growth and development of the tourism sector of Egypt. Gifting an international museum shows the growth of the civilization of Egypt through ages.
As far as closed museum are concerned, Anany said that a special schedule has been fixed to reopen them soon. For over two years, six museums like Minya, Fayoum, Cairo, Aswan, Tana and Sohag are closed. Anany also added that he is in a discussion with MP Ashraf Emara to organize light and sound show at the premises of the Grand Egyptian Museum and promote its tourism to the fullest. In cooperation with foreign missions, numerous excavation projects are being carried out by the ministry.
