A major tourism conference will be taking place at Calgary this week. It will be in the spotlight as more than 2,000 delegates will be arriving at the city to witness the conference. Rendez-vous Canada matches buyers and seller in a sequence of speed-dating-style appointments planned to secure many deals in a short span of time. Cindy Ady, CEO of Tourism Calgary says that the event is kind of an opportunity to highlight the best things of the city to the world.
To quote the CEO, ‘we’re actually taking them out on food tours and craft beer tours and adventure tours. I mean, they’re seeing a whole bunch of different things in between the buy-sell piece … which just familiarizes people with our area and what they can expect. And so we get to show them all that Calgary has to offer and show them why it’s a great idea for them to sell us.’
Ady further added by saying that business travel in Calgary accounts for about 25 percent in its tourism sector. This figure for other cities is close to 11 percent respectively.
The city experienced couple of years down in terms of business trips to Calgary. However, Tourism Calgary has worked hard to work on the differences by attracting more leisure visitors in the following days. Ady told the Calgary Eyeopener that there are evident signs that strategy is working in their favor.
