The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association will hold its 33rd Annual Global Convention in Cape Town, South Africa, 14-16 April 2016 at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel. This is the first time IGLTA’s conference, the premier educational and networking event for the LGBT tourism industry, will be held on the African continent.
Each year, the association works to add greater diversity to its speaker lineup and programming, covering everything from LGBT social media and transgender market outreach to business development strategies that target key geographic regions. Previous noteworthy speakers include David Scowsill, President/CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council; Aditi Hardikar, White House Associate Director of Public Engagement and LGBT liaison; and Yolanda Perdomo, Director of the UNWTO Affiliate Members Programme.
“We’re dedicated to providing our convention attendees with education that will help them to grow and enhance their LGBT business,” says IGLTA Board Chair Dan Melesurgo, who sits on the convention’s education task force. “This year, we definitely want to speak to the challenges LGBT people face in Africa and how our members can engage their LGBT clients in African tourism in a way that is safe and supportive of the local communities.”
