Thong Khon, the Tourism Minister of Cambodia has become the president of the new working group, along with Say Samal, the Environment Minister as the permanent vice-president and Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhon as vice-president.
“Minister for the Council of Ministers, Economy and Finance Minister, Tourism Minister, Ministers from all Ministries, relevant Heads of institutions and individuals shall be responsible for the implementation of this decision respectively, from the date of signature,” said the directive signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The working group is all focused to provide awareness, endorse tourism and ecotourism, keep an eye on all development projects related to tourism, prepare all the essential legal regulations to administer tourism and ecotourism, and simultaneously inform policies and national strategic projects for tourism development.
However for comment, we couldn’t reach to Mr Khon. Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, stated her support for the working group.
“I think it will help the tourism community,” she said. If there is a special task force for supporting the tourism community, we expect that this team will go to help local community.”
Cambodia in the initial seven months of 2017 received over 3 million international tourists. This was an increase of 12.8 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
