The journalists, representing a number of major Canadian media outlets, flew to Dublin from Vancouver on the new Air Canada rouge summer service. The flight – which began last month – is really good news for tourism from western Canada and Tourism Ireland will be taking every opportunity to highlight the new route.
During their time here, the journalists have been checking out some of the many things to see and do for Canadian holidaymakers in this part of Ireland. The feature stories they will write when they return home will also be a good opportunity to highlight the new ease of access from Vancouver and western Canada to the island of Ireland.
Their itinerary included a seaweed walk, a Voya Seaweed bath at Strandhill and a visit to Yeats’ grave. They also visited Donegal Castle, enjoyed a guided tour of the Slieve League cliffs and a surfing lesson in Bundoran.
Dana Welch, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Canada, said: “We were delighted that these influential journalists took the time to come and visit Ireland. Visits like this are a really effective way of getting positive exposure for the destination through the Canadian media, helping us to showcase what the North West has to offer Canadian holidaymakers.
“The new Air Canada route flight from Vancouver to Dublin is great news and will expand travel options for people living in western Canada who wish to visit the island of Ireland this year. The visit by this group of journalists is just one element of our programme of activity to promote the new service. Tourism Ireland is working closely with Air Canada route, Dublin Airport and other tourism interests, to drive demand for this new flight and to help maintain our vital network of routes.”
Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of the island of Ireland – and media visits to Ireland are a key element of that programme. In 2015, journalists invited here generated articles and broadcasts in media outlets around the world worth about €132 in equivalent advertising value.
