Cape Town is soon to become one of the sought-after destinations for ‘Halaal Tourism’ with project Khulisa to attract more Gulf States in near future. Wesgro believes that tourists from Gulf Cooperation Council are increasing more and more in numbers with each passing year. T has collaborated with dnata World Travel to endorse Cape Town and the Western Cape in all of the GCC states.
To quote Wesgro, ‘’ at present, the global Muslim population stands at 1.6 billion, with around 60% being under 30. This vibrant, family-orientated market has radically increased its tourism spend in recent years. We are well-positioned to increase our share of that market due to the strong cultural similarities between our regions.”
South Africa has been identified as ninth best non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation destination for OIC travelers as confirmed by the 2015 MasterCard-Crescent Rating Muslim Travel Shopping Index. The Western Cape is seriously in look out to get a fair share of $ 151 million Muslim travel market globally expecting that project Khulisa will promote Halaal tourism and Cape Town entirely to the world.
