So far, more than 30‚000 votes have been counted in the UK Telegraph Travel’s annual awards and South Africa’s scenic Mother City i.e. Cape Town – where Britain’s Prince Harry is at present either participating or highlighting various charity initiatives‚ including those related to HIV infection and urban gangsters – is forging ahead in the competition. If Cape Town wins this year’s award then it will be its fourth consecutive triumph.
Currently in second place is Venice‚ with Vancouver is placed third. New York – which won the title in 2011 – lies in fourth place at the moment. The American city was unseated by Cape Town‚ which has retained the title from then. Rounding out the top 10 are Sydney‚ Tokyo‚ San Francisco‚ Rio‚ Seville and Barcelona.
Voting remains open until February 2016 and South African tourism officials, no doubt, will be hoping that the Cape keeps on catering to its British visitors.
