The cause of the blast was not immediately known as Mayor Menderes Turel said. It took place inside a car parked outside the Antalya Trade and Industry Chamber and he thinks it may not have been the result of a terror attack.
About 10 or 12 people were hurt by flying glass, but none of the injuries was serious. At least four cars in the parking area were damaged and shattered the glass panels inside the building.
Antalya Chamber of Trade and Industry head Davut Cetin assured that there were no fatalities in the explosion. The explosion occurred as employees were arriving at the building for work, hours before the trade chamber was scheduled to hold a meeting to be attended by the mayor.
The trade centre’s perimeter was sealed by police in case of a second explosion.
Being a major tourist resort on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Antalya remains busy with corporate and leisure tourists. In August, two rockets hit a commercial facility near a resort town in the province, but caused no casualties. Kurdish and far-left militants have staged similar attacks, mostly against the security forces, in the past however, it is still not clear who are responsible for that attack.
