Also in Haiti for the UNWTO meeting was also Minister Obediah H. Wilchcombe, the Minister of Tourism from the Bahamas. The Caribbean and the Indian Ocean Vanilla Island Members all agreed that their challenges, even if the two groups are from the other side of the globe from each other, remained the same. The Ministers mandated Hugh Riley, the CEO of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) and Pascal Viroleau, the CEO of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands to liaise together in order to set up a meeting between the Caribbean Tourism Ministers and those from the Indian Ocean.
“This proposed meeting between the Caribbean Tourism Ministers and those from the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands is a concrete step for the consolidation of tourism for our respective islands. Sharing of ideas and of our own experiences can only benefit each and everyone of us” said Alain St.Ange, the seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture.
