Next week, Provincial authorities anticipate a major boost in Cebu’s tourism industry as all the senior ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or better known as Asean once again organize a meeting in the province on July 1–7.
The Cebu Provincial Tourism Office is utilizing this opportunity to improve the tourism industry of Cebu particularly with recent data from the regional Department of Tourism (DOT-7) showing a boost of visitor arrival in Cebu and the whole Central Visayas region.
For Cebu Provincial Tourism Office chief Boboy Costas, the numbers from DOT-7 were kind of evidence that Cebu remained as a top and one of the most favorite tourist destination in the country in terms of both local and international tourists — in spite of the warnings of the foreign trip advisories to their nationals against travel to some towns of southern Cebu.
Cebu and the entire Central Visayas have a strong statement to tell with Asean meetings coming close for that matter. Costas told reporters at the Provincial Capitol yesterday morning, ‘we’re safe, and we have everything anyone can ask for.’ On June 28th, 2016, DOT-7 released their statistics on visitor arrivals in Central Visayas. Statistics highlighted that an increase of 29.17 percent was registered from 2015 to 2016.
In 2015, 4.6 million tourists were recorded to have visited the region. The figures jumped to 5.95 million last year.
