Chef Oliver’s Christmas Stollen
The traditional Christstollen of Germany has been called “the pastry of kings.” This special holiday bread dates back to 1329 in Munich when Bishop Heinrich received the first loaf on Christmas. Weighing 36 pounds and measuring a metre long, it was customary for a baker to make a loaf this size every year at Christmas for the king. It soon became a holiday favourite among all citizens of the castle. Tradition dictates that stollen should be eaten on Christmas Eve after the family rituals of holiday feasting and exchanging of gifts.
The Christmas Stollen is available for purchase at the Hotel’s Holiday Desk. Each cake is USD 12 and a portion of the proceeds benefit The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins.
Enjoy Holiday Tradition and Cheer at Wit & Wisdom
With lofty ceilings, intimate fireplaces built into the walls between floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the harbor, and an open kitchen with wood burning oven, rotisserie and classic Jefferson burners, Wit & Wisdom presents a cosy, convivial atmosphere ideal for celebrating the most wonderful time of the year.
