Mr Conlan said Tourism NT and Cricket Australia will live-stream the highly anticipated match on both of their respective websites, showcasing the Territory to thousands of viewers.
“The Commonwealth Bank Ashes series is one of the biggest events in Australian sport and this week’s Tour Match featuring the England Test side will put Alice Springs on the international sporting map,” Mr Conlan said.
“And now cricket fans that can’t make the game will be able to follow the match live on the internet, delivering even more exposure for the Territory.
“It also means all Territorians won’t miss a ball and can watch our own young NT star, Luke Robins, in action against England who no doubt will be under the spotlight after their loss in the First Test.
“The broadcast on Tourism NT’s website will also include links and information about what tourists can do in and around Alice Springs, encouraging potential holiday makers to experience Australia’s outback for themselves.”
Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Game and Market Development Andrew Ingleton said: “We are delighted that we will be able to bring this match online for fans who cannot make the trip to Alice Springs for the match.
“The live stream will allow us to showcase an iconic part of our great country to cricket fans,” Ingleton said.
In a further boost for Territory tourism, Mr Conlan said a contingent of England players and British media visited Uluru yesterday, ahead of Friday’s match.
“Uluru is one of the Territory’s most iconic landmarks and having pictures of the England players, who are superstars in their own country, enjoying some rest and relaxation at this major tourism attraction will provide money-can’t-buy promotion for the NT in the United Kingdom which is one of our key international tourism markets,” Mr Conlan said.
“The impact from the Chairman’s XI game will be huge for the Territory.”
The Chairman’s XI match against England will be played at Traeger Park Oval in Alice Springs from 29-30 November. The match will be live streamed on www.travelnt.com.auand www.cricket.com.au from the start of play at 10:30am each day.
The match will also be promoted on social media around the world through the hash tag #ChairmansXIvEng. Viewers watching the broadcast will be encouraged to use this hash tag to interact with the live broadcast.
