The travel industry experts find that it is high time for Spain to realise that real threat to the country’s tourism industry comes from the holiday makers taking advantage of cheaper prices in Egypt and Turkey.
The tourists are even more wooed away by the summer of protests against tourism across Spain.
The cheap prices compared to the European Union (EU) hot spots such as Spain than that in Egypt and Turkey is the crux cause why holiday trips to those countries are gaining popularity.
Tourism in EU countries fell as a result of terror attacks; however commercial real estate agents Christie & Co said markets are beginning to pick up. They said that absence of terrorism is a major reason why travellers are flocking from France and Italy.
General Director for Spain and Portugal at the agents Inmaculada Ranera said that hoteliers are doing well and renovating their establishments in recent years.
In the summer, thousands took to the streets in Majorca holding placards protesting tourism, reading messages such as “tourists go home”.
During the first half of this year, British visitors spent £6.82billion in Spain.
Institute of Social Studies said that more than half of the residents of the Balearic Islands think the arrival of tourists in the summer is excessive, despite the economic benefits.
