China Airlines Giving Travelers More Options with Planned Service to Ontario, California

Published on : Monday, September 4, 2017

China AirlinesChina Airlines announced today (9/1) that it is now evaluating the launch of a new “Taoyuan-Ontario CA” service due to increasing demand for travel between Taiwan and California, US. In the future, those traveling to California by China Airlines can choose to continue flying into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or fly to Ontario International Airport (ONT) instead to save on travel, immigration and luggage pickup time.

China Airlines Chairman Nuan-Hsuan Ho stated that during a recent visit by a delegation of U.S. Congressmen to China Airlines, on August 30, Ed Royce, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee mentioned that Taiwan is currently California’s 4th largest trading partner and that travel between Taiwan and the US had increased by around 30% since Taiwan was added to the Visa Waiver Program. China Airlines is in turn looking forward to further exchanges between Taiwan and the US as well. The airline currently flies to San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Hawaii and Guam. A new Taoyuan-Ontario service is now being actively planned in order to provide travelers with more options and greater convenience for Taiwan-US travel, as well as to boost bilateral corporations on business.

In July, Taoyuan City Mayor Wen-Tsan Chen traveled to the U.S. to sign a sister city agreement with San Bernardino County that strengthened cooperation between Taoyuan International Airport and Ontario International Airport. A market survey on the proposed Ontario route conducted by China Airlines also received an enthusiastic response as the airport is more convenient for travelers living on the east side of Greater Los Angeles. It will also dramatically cut travel, immigration and luggage pickup times.

The new route is now being studied by China Airlines and several recommendations have been proposed to Ontario International Airport. Necessary improvements are now being planned by Ontario as well. A formal agreement will be signed between the two parties to start the new service once all related preparations are completed.
