As explained by the National Tourism Administration of China today that the tropical city of Sanya, the winter destination of Harbin along with the port city of Xiamen were enlisted as the top three destinations in terms of New Year holiday, pointing at the results from a travel desire survey carried on by the China Tourism Academy.
While few visitors headed to Sanya on Hainan Island in order to flee from the cold, others are looking for cold by visiting the north-eastern city of Harbin to enjoy ski and snow views. Xiamen is well-known for its mild climate, along with historic Hokkien culture and the colonial architecture on Gulangyu Island, which later in July became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In 2016, Hangzhou was the host city of the G20 and Zhangjiajie was the home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Wulingyuan Scenic Area was also in the list with ‘spring city’ Kunming and capital Beijing.
NTA calculates that national tourism of China will be at a total profit of US$11.5bn from December 30, 2017 through January 1, 2018, up 12.7 percent annually, China News Service reports.
For the New Year holiday, the popular abroad destinations for Chinese tourists are Japan, Thailand and the US, as per the report released by Ctrip, one of the country’s most important online travel platforms.
