China has decided to use tourism as an important tool for structural reforms and economic development. Premier Li Keqiang in his opening speech at the ceremony of the First World Conference on Tourism Development held at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing said that the country will help 12 million people out of poverty in the next five years through tourism development and strengthen international tourism cooperation.
People living in poor and remote areas of China are impoverished, they are facing difficulties in developing agriculture and industry, but there is a unique advantage for developing tourism. There are many poor areas that have already reduced poverty through tourism in China.
Tourism will be a new driving force for the country felt Li and will help in achieving entrepreneurship and innovation, reduce poverty and enhance friendship with other countries. China will open the tourist market to non-governmental capital, deepen cooperation with foreign capital, strengthen hardware construction and market supervision.
The tourism industry contributed 4.9 percent of GDP in 2015 and directly employed 28 million people. Tourism can be integrated with development and the ” Internet plus” strategies and achieve synergized development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries. He also added that tourism can be used for productive development of the environmental, ecological and economical development of the country.
He also pointed out that there needs to be more flexibility in the visa policy of other countries. They need to streamline entrance procedures, better protect consumer rights and interests and strengthen south-south and south-north dialogue on tourism cooperation so that tourism gets full play and friendly exchanges can take place.
