Thong Khon during the second national tourism forum with discussion on the China-Ready strategy stressed on the fact that in order to reap potential economic benefits both the operators and the government need to act in a planned way to increase the Chinese arrivals.
During the first eight months of 2017, there were 742,586 Chinese tourist arrivals resulting in a 44 percent increase than last year. Chinese tourists topped the spot for arrivals to the Kingdom leaving Vietnam behind.
Cambodia had 3.5 million international visitors during the first eight months of the year.
He further mentioned that the entire world is capturing the Chinese tourism market and Cambodia should develop a well managed comprehensive tourism marketing strategy.
In 2017 the kingdom had welcomed 5.6 million visitors and aims for 7 millions in 2020 that will be generating $5 billion in revenue and create additional jobs. Meanwhile the hospitality sector has to upgrade.
Chhay Sivlin, the president of Cambodia Travel Agent Association said that the private sector was working in alliance with the ministry’s guidelines. It had started hiring Chinese speakers and preparing materials in Chinese.
Cambodian operators should build a better reputation with the Chinese tourist and emphasis should be laid on building human resource skills and on training the operators.
