China is in the middle of loo revolution as it plans to refurbish 100,000 toilets and 50,000 more are under construction in order to attract more western tourists in the coming years. The China National Tourism Administration is all geared up in building more clean, odorless, and user-friendly toilets at free. As billions of dollars are brought forth by international tourists each year to China, the deteriorating toilet situation is gradually bringing down the reputation of the country.
Despite promising Wi-Fi scented soaps in renovated bathrooms, China does faces lot of obstruction in its bathroom renovation. According to the report of World Health Organization, more than 14 million Chinese are still in practice of open defecation. A recent study published by the World Toilet Organization points out that the number of toilets doesn’t meet the demand making only 51% urban population using proper hygienic sanitation facility in the country.
However, the state censors are quite anxious at the outflow of the news of its sanitation situation to the world. Toilet papers use is gradually increasing with state officials rewarding great places to explore with a list of high-ranking toilet tourist spot.
