China and Switzerland has entered into a new cultural cooperation agreement based on which the China-Switzerland Tourism Year of 2017 will be jointly hosted by the two countries. This move will strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation between China and Switzerland.
Switzerland will also strengthen cooperation with China in winter sports to help the latter better prepare for the hosting of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
The cooperation agreement was signed during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Switzerland. He met with President of the Swiss Confederation Doris Leuthard in Bern. They were joined by Swiss federal councilors including Vice President Alain Berset, head of the Federal Department of Finance Ueli Maurer, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Didier Burkhalter, and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research Johann N. Schneider-Ammann.
Leuthard and Swiss federal councilors present welcomed President Xi’s state visit and believed it would further bilateral friendship and win-win cooperation. Switzerland expressed desire to deepen communication and cooperation with China in economy & trade, finance, innovation, culture and tourism.
