“We’re very excited about this leadership summit, we think it’s a wonderful opportunity for the United States and for China, and leaders from our provinces, and from our States, to be able to share lessons they’ ve learned about best practices, and how to promote destinations to tourists. We think it’ s a wonderful opportunity for us to know each other as people and to become friends. And we’ re really looking forward to a productive summit between China and U.S. to share travel tourism best practices.”

The event is an important part of celebrations of the China-US Tourism Year, which began in February and will last till November.

China and the United States are important tourism sources for each other.

Since Chinese group tours to the United States began in June 2008, tourism in both countries have posted growth.

Last year, about 4.75 million trips have been made between China and the United States, with more than 2 million U.S. tourists coming to China.

This year, trips between the two countries are expected to exceed 5 million, a record high.

“This is 10th annual China US Tourism Leadership Summit, and it’ s a great opportunity for our two nations to gather tourism industry and two nations to do really three things, one is to educate each other about all the opportunities in each of our respective countries; promote travel to each of our respective countries, to our citizens; and then as importantly to share best practices on how to do so. We had a great 9-year track of doing that, we expect this 10th summit will be really successful.”

According to the World Tourism Organization under the United Nations, in 2014, Chinese tourists spent about 165 billion U.S. dollars on overseas tourism, ranking first in global tourism spending.

The United States was second in the ranking, with about 111 billion dollars.

“Well, it’s very exciting that the travel flows between the two countries are increasing. So the number of U.S. citizens coming to China has grown, and the number of Chinese visitors to the U.S. continues to be strong. What’ s exciting about our governments is we have special cooperative relationship of travel and tourism, so we can work on exciting policies that make it more productive for visitors. So the visa validity, extension, wasn’ t the very important development. And the U.S.-China Tourism Year announced by President Obama and President Xi is another important development that will increase travel between our two countries.”

The annual leadership summit is held by Chinese and U.S. cities in turns.
