China’s tourism sectorThe horses of Zhang Fade on Mt. Gangshika, 4,000 meters above the sea level, have left behind a trail in the snow.

 
The snow-covered Mt. Gangshika in Menyuan County of Qinghai Province in northwest China organizes sports competitions all through the year, including mountaineering and skiing.

 
Previous week, an international mountaineering competition took place, attracting more than 42 contestants worldwide, along with spectators.

 
For competitors and visitors, Zhang assists in bringing all kinds of materials up the mountain. For every trip up and down the mountain, he makes around 400 yuan (63 U.S. dollars).

 
“Business is quite good,” he said.

 
Also, like other locals, Zhang has opened a homestay, offering visitors food and accommodation.

 
In China, tourism is a thriving business. The domestic tourism industry of the country welcomed more than 4.57 trillion yuan with 5 billion domestic trips made last year, which accounts for an up of 15.9 percent and 12.8 percent, respectively, data from the China National Tourism Administration showed. Rising tourism business has provided great opportunities for people like Zhang.

 
In China’s Tibet Autonomous Region of Zhaxizom Township, a similar situation can be found. The township is close to Mt. Everest, or Mt. Qomolangma as it is known locally.
The 46 year old Sonam, owns a homestay in the township’s Pasum Village. Through the windows of her house, the tallest mountain of the world appears like a majestic vista.
