Travel rush in China has started as hundreds of millions of Chinese have started returning to their homes in order to observe Chinese New Year Holiday 2017. Locally known as Chunyun, this event causes largest human migration in the world. 2017 is the rooster year as per Chinese astrology and will start from 28th Jan till 21st Feb.
As per the prediction of the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s major economic planning body, 2017 is about to experience 3 billion trips which are 2.2% increase than 2016. Out of 3 billion trips, 356 million will be covered by rail, 2.5 billion by land and 43.5 million by boat pointing out that land transportation is the choicest mode of travel in China.
It’s also being considered that trains will be immensely crowded with standing tickets sold out weeks in advance. Passengers might have to rotate seats on popular rail lines. On the other hand, Chinese officials are busy conducting anti-terrorism drills as not to forget in 2015 more than 36 people were killed and 49 injured in the New Year’s stampede.
Moreover, this rush is a golden opportunity for tourism companies to sell tickets to the customers who are eager to return home this holiday season.
