This summer, Tourism Ireland in China teamed up with HBO Asia for season 7 of Game of Thrones – to remind GoT fans that Northern Ireland is one of the main filming locations for the hugely popular TV series. The promotion ran on five popular online platforms, including Tencent (social network), Mtime (movie news and reviews website) and SiTV (Shanghai Interactive Television), as well as on HBO’s and Tourism Ireland’s social channels – reaching more than 14 million people around China. It featured a competition, with a chance to win a trip to Northern Ireland to explore the ‘real life Westeros’.
The prize-winners’ VIP tour – designed by Bespoke NI – included a visit to the Ulster Museum in Belfast to see the Game of Thrones tapestry. The giant, 80-metre long, Bayeux-style tapestry was part of Tourism Ireland’s global Game of Thrones campaign this summer. They enjoyed a tour along the Causeway Coastal route, stopping off at various Games of Thrones filming locations. They also took part in a fun ‘Winterfell’ experience at Castle Ward and attended a Game of Thrones banquet at The Cuan in Strangford, Co Down.
