Grandview shopping mall in China’s Guangzhou region is presently facing the wrath of the animal activists for imprisoning animals in small enclosures, in order to draw shoppers and visitors.
The ‘ocean theme park’ at the shopping centre offer the visitors to take selfies with the distressed animals. The aquarium has been unveiled in early January inside the shopping mall.
Over 285,000 animal activists have signed a petition to shut down the aquarium inside the Grandview shopping centre, which has imprisoned several animals including ‘the world’s saddest polar bear’ named ‘Pizza’.
The deputy manager of the park, Li Chengtang has initially rejected every accusation and informed that the polar bear Pizza is very happy.
The Hong Kong-based animal activist group Animals Asia has visited the ocean theme park in April. Animals Asia officials have informed that the polar bear along with arctic wolves, beluga whales and walrus calves are in a shocking condition.
Director of Animals Asia, Dave Neale has expressed his anger by stating that there is no excuse for any animal to be trapped like this. He has added that they are calling for the zoo in the shopping centre to be closed down. Neale has also informed that Grandview closed the zoo under the pressure of negative publicity to redesign the animal enclosures.
The Grandview Aquarium authorities has promised to improve the condition of the animals in April, but the condition has not improved still.
