He mentioned that currently Sabah is a truly popular tourist destination for the Chinese tourists in South-East.
He further added that the tourism amenities of Sabah would be enhanced since there are insufficient hotel rooms right now. He had asserted that instead of heading to beautiful places like Japan and Korea Chinese travellers are returning to Sabah.
As per the official statistics available on the tourism website of Sabah Tourism, the 518,045 visitors from this Asian region had accounted for about half or at least 42.7% of Sabah’s over 1.2 million tourists during the period of January-June this year.
For the initial six months this year, the number of tourists from North-east Asia (South Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan) to Sabah was 386,375 and surpassed the number of tourists from South-east Asia (131,670).
China comprises the lion’s share of tourists from the North-east Asian area at 208,100 for the period of January-June this year that also witnessed an 18.2% jump from 176,130 for the same period last year.
For January-December last year, China had accounted for 374,939 out of 980m175 visitor arrivals to Sabah.
