Chinese travellers in US turn into art enthusiasts

Chinese travellersChinese travellers in the US used to be shopaholics who loved pampering themselves by visits to luxury stores in New York City. However, at present, they have turned into ardent art enthusiasts and culture lovers.


Lin Xiaowen, a tour guide associated with the Metropolitan Museum (Met), New York said that it was being observed that an increasing number of Chinese tourists harbor an interest in arts and culture, and more number of independent Chinese tourists have been visiting US of late.


Even a few years ago, Chinese consumers used to frequent the shops on the Fifth Avenue of New York. But currently, they are more inclined towards culture and arts.


Lin Xiaowen confirmed that recently, an increased number of Chinese tourists had been visiting the Met, and in the year 2009, nearly 50,000 Chinese travellers visited it. However, he also said that ever since the year 2014, the number of Chinese tourists paying visit to the museum has risen over 2,00,000. This makes Chinese tourists the largest tourist group who visited the Metropolitan Museum.


In 2015, a large number of tourists, as much as 6.3 million have visited this famous museum in the US, a majority of whom were Chinese tourists. This museum is among the largest museums in the entire world that boasts of at least two million artworks.


The museum authorities have included maps in Mandarin language and also audio tours, in order to encourage more Chinese visitors to arrive at this iconic museum. They have also starting accepting UnionPay and opened a Chinese Weibo account.


At present, Mandarin language is set for three times a week with a view to entertain Chinese tourists, as revealed by Lin Xiaowen.


As per the latest reports, the Mandarin version of the guidebook of this museum is more popular with the tourists than the guidebooks on other foreign languages.
