The aircraft, the websites and the channels of AEGEAN and Olympic Air are filled with images, sounds, colors and flavors from Chios, the star destination to which the initiative “Closer to Greece” is dedicated during the month of June.
By promoting and advertising the sweet scented Chios, one of the most fascinating islands in Greece, AEGEAN and Olympic Air give all their passengers the opportunity to discover the beauties and the “mastic scent” of Chios, an island with great naval tradition. In the context of this initiative, the company has co-operated with local producers and other competent bodies of the island and has undertaken the task to promote in a creative manner and through a series of initiatives, the beauties, the people and the cuisine of the island on all its channels.
Until the end of June, all passengers of domestic and international flights will have the opportunity to get an authentic taste of the rich gastronomic tradition of Chios, through traditional products prepared by local producers and cooperatives, as for instance Citrus, Mastiha Shop, Chios Fruits and Chios Beer. More specifically, a large variety of mastic-based products, such as lukum, baklava, tsoureki and mastichopita, are offered. Moreover, special tasty creations from Chios, such as spreads, mastello cheese sandwiches, marmalades, juice and spoon sweets made from local tangerines as well as fresh Chios beer will be available in all Lounges of AEGEAN.
In addition to the above mentioned, during international flights and more specifically in Business Class, the associated chef of the company, Mr. Sarantos, has undertaken the preparation of two extra menu options, based on the local cuisine, which will be accompanied by the local red wine “Ariousios Afstiros”, selected by the partner of the company Mr. Konstantinos Lazarakis M.W. (Master of Wine). A mastic liquor, which is already included in the menu and the “Apalarina” ouzo will also be offered.
AEGEAN has filmed local tribute videos to be shown on board screens and on all available channels of communication, so that more passengers have the opportunity to “travel” and discover the charming beauty, the flavors and the welcoming locals of Chios.
