Clark International Airport served more than two million passengers in the first half of 2019, according to Jaime Melo, President of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC). In a statement issued on Sunday, he said that the airport welcomed total 2,104,226 passengers. This represents a rise by 63 per cent from last year for the same period. The airport recorded its highest passenger numbers in just six months – January 1 to June 30. The airport in Philippines registered 913,724 international passengers and 1,190,502 domestic passengers.
Jaime Melo said that CIAC was able to sustain the surge in passenger numbers largely because of the marketability of Clark Airport and the civil aviation complex. It had the endorsement of President Duterte and the national government. The Transportation Secretary Art Tugade guided them throughout.
Currently, the passenger capacity of the airport is 4.2 million and it has a monthly average of 345,000 passengers. On a daily basis, Clark assists some 11,500 passengers. Meanwhile, a total of 673 flights — 202 international and 471 domestic — operates weekly.
The figure is the highest in the mid-year number of travellers in the airport’s 24-year history. The highest count in one month was recorded last May with 395,847 passengers.
