The rainstorm has hit the Singhali area of Uttarakhand in the early hours of Friday. It has instantly flattened homes and trapped numerous people under it. At present 25 people are reported to be missing.
The district magistrate of Pithogarh, HC Semwal said, “We have recovered five bodies from Singhali area while three bodies have been recovered from Thal village. The search for others is on by rescue parties consisting of army and paramilitary personnel.”
In two hours, the region has experienced over 100mm rainfall on 50 square kilometre of area.
The district disaster management officer, RS Rana has stated that the missing 25 people are being tracked with the help of SSB, Pithogarh district police and ITBP.
The cloudburst has wrecked the villages of Ogla, Patthakot, Singhali and Thal.
At this moment the rescuers are trying to locate and save all the people who are buried under the huge pile of debris.
Uttarakhand is the Indian state which receives numerous tourists each year because of its breathtakingly beautiful hills. The tourism industry in the state is still recovering from the loss that has been caused by a deadly flood in 2013.
