The flight 913 that had taken off from White Plains, NY had to be diverted to Charleston International Airport.
Here, the 98 passengers evacuated the aircraft utilizing emergency slides about 10.30 a.m., according to the local news media. A resident on Westchester was on his way to Fort Lauderdale when the crew members of Embraer E190 declared about the problem.
The passenger who was named Frank Migliorelli of Croton Hudson told the news media that they crew announced that they were going to make a ‘code red landing’.
And, they also offered the passengers a short tutorial on how they could brace themselves. He added that majority of the air travellers remained calm during the entire incident. The passenger mentioned that though some of the passengers were slightly perturbed, they were manageable, and the fact that they had to slide down the slides made it exciting for a few of them too.
In its official statement JetBlue said that no injuries were reported among the 102 people who were on board the flight.
Thereafter, the passengers were transported to the terminal in a bus and were placed on alternative flights. Currently, the FAA is investigating the emergency. The cause of the smoke, however is yet to be announced.
