From 9 to13 March 2016, Cologne will be presenting itself in cooperation with its neighbouring cities Bonn and Düsseldorf at the International Travel Trade Show (ITB) in Berlin to international trade visitors and private visitors at stand 103 in hall 8.2. Ashok Sridharan, mayor of the City of Bonn, Thomas Geisel, mayor of the City of Düsseldorf, and Ute Berg, head of the Department of Economic Development and Real Property of the City of Cologne, will discuss the opportunities and challenges the three cities face and present an outlook for 2016. Also on Thursday, 10 March 2016, the three cities will stage their 15th “Rhine Night” – a get-together for travel company representatives, travel journalists and other tourism sector partners – at the waterworks in the Charlottenburg/Wilmersdorf district of Berlin.
Record result 2015 – New central themes 2016/2017
Cologne Tourist Board has positive results to report for 2015 at ITB, as the Cologne business and leisure tourism sector set a new record last year with 5.98 million overnight stays. This figure represents an increase of 4.3 per cent from 2014. Cologne is a lively city with a vibrant culture, especially thanks to its museums. The year 2016 will be marked by the exhibition “We call it Ludwig” on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Museum Ludwig and the 30-year existence of the museum building. With the exhibition “The Big Screen!”, the Museum of the City of Cologne and the association “Köln im Film e.V.” remember the 120 years of history of Cologne’s cinemas and the first screening of a film in Germany, which took place in Cologne on 20 April 1896. Cologne Tourist Board will highlight the creative hotspot of Cologne with a new central theme in 2016/2017: “#urbanCGN – cologne urban lifestyle”, focusing on the modern urban way of life and sights off the beaten track. All relevant information can be found at the blog launched to coincide with ITB www.visit.koeln, as well as in special sections at www.cologne-tourism.com. In 2017, a sport highlight will showcase Cologne as an international sport and event city: for the first time, two countries – Germany and France – will jointly host the 81st IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. It will take place from 5 to 21 May 2017 in the Lanxess arena in Cologne and the Accor Hotels arena in Paris.
