Sandra Uwera, the Business Council Coordinator for COMESA, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa was personally in Seychelles last week to fly the flags of all the organization’s member states in the carnival parade that continues to take the world by storm.
COMESA decided to tell the world who they represented and they paraded a small truck decorated with all the different flags of the Eastern and Southern Africa Common Market Members. Sandra Uwera personally walked in the front of her organization’s truck in a parade alongside the best and most known carnivals and cultural troupes from the Community of Nations.
“It is commendable for an organization to come forward and spell out their member states. Too often these worldwide organizations take it for granted that the acronym of their names resonates any sense outside the countries they represent” a journalist said as the COMESA float passed the VIP Grand Stand.
“We salute this commitment by Comesa’s Business Council Coordinator. She made us feel proud. Our flag was visible and this gave me an opportunity to speak about my country to the many members of the international press gathered in Seychelles for this great carnival. I just hope that AU and SADC will take a page from Comesa and also do the same next year. Together we can make Africa proud” said a delegate from the African Continent.
