After the key rail junction of Havant in Hampshire got completely blocked tens of thousands of rush-hour commuters had their travel plans wrecked due to signal failures.
From Portsmouth to London Waterloo on South Western Railway or on the Southern between Brighton, Chichester , Portsmouth and Southampton trains cannot run. The passengers were urged to catch buses instead.
SWR stated that the problem came to light on Tuesday night and the Network Rail engineers worked on the issue but the problem has not been fixed completely.
SWR further mentioned that due to the number of signaling problems in Havant area all lines were blocked and the disruption will remain until the end of the day.
Ticket acceptance on local buses was arranged.
The signaling problem had been affecting its services and Southern further confirmed a fault with the signaling system at Havant meant that trains were not able to run past Chichester.
There was a travel advisory to commute on Stagecoach 700 between Portsmouth and Chichester.
The problems will continue till morning and might affect the evening rush hour while the trains from Waterloo were being turned around at the Petersfield.
A point failure at Aldershot blocked the SWR line that connected Alton with London Waterloo and the services cannot run through the station.
The trains between Guldford and Ascot were affected by the issue and the disruption will persist till Monday.
