One of the stewards had discovered a bag with a substance presumed to be cocaine in the toilet three hours after the flight took off. The drunk trio were observed to be making repeated trips to the toilet. Later, they had also become abusive to the crew members.
The pilot told the 181 passengers on the flight that they would be required to make a stopover in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
He said that the policemen are about to board the aircraft and requested passengers not to leave their seats. Thereafter, the ten cops hauled off the men and their luggage. They also quizzed the crew about the incident. One of the passengers named Sophie Bennett, who is 26 said that initially, the crew members saw the three men taking frequent trips to the loo.
Bennett is an events manager.
They had checked the luggage and one of the crew members returned with a bag. Over the next few hours, the three men became aggressive. They had started swearing at the crew.
One of the crew members even started crying due to stress.
Sophie who was flying with Harry Granger, who was 27 said that the announcement of the plane’s stopover surprised the passengers as they were given only ten minutes’ warning. A couple had actually started weeping when they found out about the stopover.
Ms. Bennett said that they were on the ground for about 50 minutes as the police arrested them.
Lisbon police said that the Brit trio appeared in court. They were arrested on suspicion of carrying out illegal activities on a flight. They had been travelling with an envelope containing traces of a suspected illicit substance but then tests have proved to b inconclusive so far.
EasyJet have banned the men for life.
