In order to enhance tourism of Camden Fort Meagher, a special plan has to be prepared. The Cork County Council is now is a mood to appoint a special body or a consultancy team to create a comprehensive plan to showcase this classical coastal artillery fort to the world.
The locals and the council have already started with restoration work as visitor center housing. Creating a blueprint of the restoration work will be done along with exploiting the facilities like future use, conservation of the military buildings spread across 45 acres of land etc. In case of underground tunnels, same restoration work has to be implemented which comprise 65 percent of the entire structure of the fort. Also, piers, quays and pier house have to be restored in the same way.
Camden Fort Meagher, in the current scenario is only open to the public on weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays between May and September. However, the council wants to keep the fort open all-year round. The local authority is interested make use of the fort as a prime tourist destination, community facility, arts and culture centre, heritage centre, and a place to organize conferences.
