Counting down to Dublin’s New Year Madness

Published on : Tuesday, November 12, 2013

dublinCouple that with the fact that TripAdvisor has voted the Irish capital as Europe’s friendliest city, not once, but twice, and there’s only once choice for New Year’s Eve, or as Dubliners call it, NYE.

This year Dublin is going to be mad…literally. Madness, the sultans of ska and the kings of swing will be headlining an epic New Year ‘sEve gig, and they’re set to turn the entire city into one gigantic House of Fun.

There’s no two ways about it, Dublin is a rock ‘n’ roll city. The NYE 2014 Countdown Concert is set to shake, rattle and roll its way into the New Year.

County Cavan natives The Strypes will be joining the Madness, having carved out a rocket-fuelled path across the music world this year – they shook Glastonbury to its core and they’re lining up to do the same for the Countdown Concert.

Joining Madness and The Strypes at the Countdown will be Ryan Sheridan, a musician who has stormed onto the music scene in Ireland and internationally.

Fresh from reaching number one in the German iTunes charts, Ryan’s hook-filled, guitar stompers are sure to get the crowds jumping.

But it’s not just music grabbing the New Year headlines. On 31 December a magical event will take place on the streets of the Fair City: the People’s Procession of Light.

The city will twinkle and sparkle as hundreds of participants and performers illuminate Dublin with dazzling light displays, music and dance in a free family event that will be the perfect start to an Irish NYE.

When the morning sun shines out over Dublin City on 1 January 1st 2014, you might think the festivities have ended. Um, no they haven’t, this is Dublin party land.

Kick-start 2014 with The Big Brunch; it’ll have everything you need for revitalisation after the night before as Temple Bar’s famous Meeting House Square transforms into a delicious food market with local entertainment to boot.

This is where you can take the cure for late nights out – traditional Irish dancing. Because Meeting House Square will also morph into a dancehall for a Giant Ceilí, complete with traditional Irish musicians.

Music lovers – party goers – city lovers it’s true Dublin is gearing itself up for the ‘Bash of all Bashes’
Word of warning – try to organise your accommodation now as some accommodations are full and some do not even open on New Years Eve.
