With the weather making everything fall out of line a contraction crane came crashing down in lower Manhattan amid severe snow storm. The crane crashed a few blocks from City Hall and a half-mile from the World Trade Center site. The powerful crash crushed cars parked nearby and three people were injured by the sudden impact.
The 565-foot-tall crane flipped upside down and left the metal boom stretching almost two blocks away. The incident occurred when the workers were trying to lower the crane to save it from the strong winds approaching at 25 miles per hour.
A greater calamity was avoided as pedestrians were evacuated from the area when it was decided to lower the crane.
The sound of the falling crane was deafening according to witnesses just a few blocks away. It sounded like a bomb blast.
