The Ministry of Tourism has launched the Swadesh Darshan scheme with a vision to develop theme based tourist circuits on the principles of high tourist value, competitiveness and sustainability in an integrated manner by synergizing efforts to focus on needs and concerns of all stakeholders to enrich tourist experience and enhance employment opportunities.
Under the scheme thirteen thematic circuits have been identified for development, namely: North-East India Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Desert Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Ramayana Circuit & Heritage Circuit.
Year-wise allocation of funds and expenditure incurred during the last three years for Ministry of Tourism is as follows:

A number of projects have been received from various State Governments/Union Territory Administrations under the thematic circuits identified in the Swadesh Darshan Scheme. Projects are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, liquidation of pending utilization certificates against the funds released earlier, submission of suitable detailed project report and adherence to the relevant scheme guidelines.
This information was given by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Civil Aviation in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
