Croatia regards sustainable and responsible tourism to be crucial and during the Croatian presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Tourism Ministry is all set to illustrate a document in which the member-states and the European Commission will be called upon to assist in endorsing the growth and expansion of sustainable and responsible tourism, the ministry informed Hina.
Showcasing sustainable tourism and the sustainability of coastal and island communities is one of the key features incorporated in the programme of the Croatian six-month rotating EU presidency. Here, Croatia will put special stress on supporting tourist trade’s diversity, synergy of local communities and tourists, and decreasing seasonality of tourist demand along with the execution of ICT within tourism systems.
Croatia thinks that tourism should take a more prominent part in European strategies and institutions and will suggest the progress of a European tourist brand for the joint promotion of member-states in remote markets.
“All that fits in the first strategic goal of the Croatian presidency, a Europe that grows in a balanced, sustainable and inclusive way,” Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli says.
He directs the growth and expansion of specific types of tourism like health tourism, cyclotourism, river tourism and many more that can significantly add to the affluence of the local population and direct travellers to some new destinations outside the popular ones, the minister says.
He evokes that the growth of sustainable and responsible tourism can add to the efforts in safeguarding the rare species, protect the tangible and intangible heritage along with address problems like excessive tourism.
