cruise linesFor the very first time, cruise appears as a contributor to the official tourism statistics of New Zealand.

The 2017 Tourism Satellite Account includes cruise sector expenditure and it actually fills a long gap in tourism statistics, as mentioned by the New Zealand Cruise Association (NZCA).

Kevin O’Sullivan, chief executive officer of NZCA.

He asserted that they are glad that the government has eventually recognized and incorporated cruise into its official statistics.

And, the results demonstrate the significance of cruise to the regions visited by cruise ships. The statistics were compiled from industry stakeholders data sources, together with an increased visitor spending model utilizing robust statistical processes.

In the absence of official statistics, the economic contribution of the cruise sector had been previously calculated by the consultants of NZCA.

Mr. O’ Sullivan states that NZCA would continue to work along with the government to add on these inaugural estimates and also to add in the areas that are yet to be accountable for.
