Hong Kong ushered in the New Year with crowds on both sides of Victoria Harbour watching the CTEG Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations, organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and title-sponsored by CT Environmental GroupLimited (CTEG).
The event was officiated by Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Dr Peter Lam,Chairman of the HKTB; Miss Cathy Chu, Commissioner for Tourism; and Mr Tsui Cham To, Chairman of Board of Directors of CTEG.The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) was the centre of thecountdown celebrations, with seven other buildings on Hong Kong Islandparticipating. Starting from 10:00pm, cloud-shaped foam with smiley faces and heart-shaped patterns was launched in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre area,echoing the theme of “Love and Joy”. Pyrotechnic “shooting stars” were launched every 15 minutes from 11:00pm onwards from the rooftops of participatingbuildings, for spectators to make New Year’s wishes. The shooting starsrepresented good wishes in “career”, “health”, “fortune” and “love”.
The last 20 seconds of 2015 saw everyone counting down excitedly to the numerical display on the LED screen. As the clock struck midnight, a pyrotechnic display started in rhythm with the show’s theme song, brightening up the sky above Victoria Harbour for eight minutes with dazzling pyrotechnics, fireworks and special lighting, including over 160 smiley faces and heart-shaped patterns, symbolising joy and love.
The CTEG Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations are one of the programmes under the “Appreciate HK” campaign, organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
