The tourism of Northern Cyprus is more known for its ‘sun, sea and sand.’ But other factors need to be considered like history, nature, sport activities, and harvest tourism for the betterment of tourism sector in the country. The country’s tourism sector has already started focusing on these activities. A tree planting activity has been started for foreign tourists. They will receive a certificate and an occasional email reminding them that they have a planted tree on the island. The country is also seriously focusing on health tourism and have received affirmative nod from investors on this issue. There are 100,000 students from all over the world and highly developed medical universities. Northern Cyprus recently became the 54th member of the World Health Tourism Congress. The island’s weather is also congenial for the elderly, making t friendly for older tourists.
There are one million tourists coming to the island annually. The number has increased this year with more tourists coming in the winter season. Now, 70% of the capacity of hotels is already filled until June. The country’s tourism officials are encouraging the tourists to visit the country’s historic and natural beauties. Turkey is the priority target market for Cyprus and it also targeting other European destinations.
