Denver International Airport (DEN) announced the appointment of Darryl M. Jones as its Chief Real Estate Officer. As one of five executive vice president positions at the airport, Jones will be responsible for leading the continued development and economic expansion of the airport’s real estate program on 17,000 developable acres. This property includes the transit-oriented communities adjacent to the commuter rail stops at 61st Avenue and Peña Boulevard and 40th Avenue and Airport Boulevard, and the 1,500-acre commercial use pilot program established between Denver and Adams County and ratified by the voters last November.
Jones, who will begin his new position at the airport on June 27, has a long history of serving in leadership roles in real estate, planning and development, with both public and private sector organizations over his 28- year career. With a background as a city planner, he has extensive knowledge in real estate development, regulation, urban design, planning processes and planning development.
He comes to DEN from the Coventry Development Corporation where he currently serves as vice president and development manager. During his time there, since 2004, he has managed and directed major land planning and development projects in Colorado, Florida and Texas. These projects include the RidgeGate development in Lone Tree, Colorado, Springwood Village and Baybrook in Houston, Texas and Hobe Grove in Martin County, Florida.
Jones previously served as the director of planning and government affairs for Oakwood Homes and as planning manager for the Community Development Department of the City of Greenwood Village, which is the position which brought him to Colorado in 1998. Prior to his time in Colorado he held positions in planning and zoning for the cities of Boston, Massachusetts and Santa Cruz, Campbell and Mountain View, California.
Jones holds a master’s degree in city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, and a bachelor of arts degree in landscape architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently serving as the president of the Schweiger Ranch Foundation board of directors, a not-for-profit entity. He is also a member of the Greenwood Village City Council.
“After a nationwide search to find a professional with the right mix of planning, development and political experience, we are delighted to welcome Darryl Jones to the DEN team,” said Kim Day, CEO of Denver International Airport. “His knowledge of the region and experience with large real estate projects will enhance the ability for Darryl to lead our efforts to optimize the revenue potential of airport property, collaborate with our adjacent municipalities and property owners to assure efficient infrastructure investments and coordinated land uses, and to stimulate regional economic development.”
