The unofficial slogan of the Northern Territory in Australia is being opposed by the Darwin City Council and it has voted to ban the products adorned with ‘CU in the NT’ this week.

NT Unofficial ,the group behind the unofficial campaign  in 2016 had launched the slogan to promote awareness of the Australian state which soon went viral was, ‘ The Top End . Different from the bottom end.’

The group is known to sell a wide range of merchandise with the slogan in the t-shirts, flip-flops and hats , they also promote the Northern Territory through its website and social media.

The slogan was labeled as immature and offensive by the officials this week and the motion to ban the products from sale at public markets in Darwin was passed.

The group in response said that the slogan was to promote a quick and easy way to invite your friends to the Northern Territory. It is simple, easy to remember and a cheerful way to invite mates on a holiday to the territory.

It went on adding that they felt like it was a knee jerk reaction which ignored the vast majority of the local population who love and celebrate the CU in the NT Brand.

Considering the upside to this whole debacle, it resulted in even more media attention to the Northern Territory that they wish to promote. The group will continue to tirelessly promote the Northern Territory as they had been doing.

Last summer, the tourism official for Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania had launched a campaign which raised eyebrows.
