Extreme weather in eastern China claimed at least 98 lives and injured 800 more on Thursday 23rd June. A severe tornado, along with hailstorm, thunder and lightning, affected lives of thousands of citizens and tourists.
Numerous homes, factories and buildings were destroyed; hundreds of people and cars got tossed by the tornado.
The tornado hit the region at the speed of 125km per hour. Yancheng City in the Jiangsu Province of China took most of the hit.
Houses in many villages got flattened by the tornado. Strong air made many citizens and tourists to swirl in the air, just when they tried to rescue others.
According to police in Yancheng, emergency crew rescued more than 100 and evacuated almost 2000 people on Friday 24th June.
According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, over 1000 tents, 2000 folding-beds and emergency lights were sent by the central government in Beijing, to oversee disaster relief.
More than 1000 were deployed by the Provincial authorities of Jiangsu for the rescue operation. The authorities also sent emergency supplies for the evacuated people.
The number of causalities can go up if the weather condition worsens furthermore.
