Now holidaymakers don’t even need to get up from their deckchairs to buy food. With the help of Deliveroo, they can have it delivered straight to their spot. The firm is trialing Jet Ski deliveries this August on the south coast.
Specially trained Jet Ski riders have carried out a series of aqua deliveries in Bournemouth straight from local restaurants Prezzo and Five Guys. The company is collecting feedback from these trials before coming to final decision.
A Deliveroo spokesperson said, “We are always looking for new and innovative ways to deliver our food in the most efficient and convenient way possible to Deliveroo customers. Knowing that so many of us enjoy the beach at this time of year presented us with the perfect opportunity to trial our jet ski deliveries, making sure customers didn’t miss the last rays of sunshine while enjoying delicious dishes straight from our restaurant partners.”
Rival firm Uber has also introduced a seaside innovation, with the launch of a speedboat service in Croatia. UberBOAT, which offers speedboats for up to 12 people, has already run its trial service in Istanbul and Miami among other locations, and has been operating in Croatia during the summer tourist season. The service is available, via the Uber app, from the cities of Split and Dubrovnik in the southern Adriatic as well as from the island of Hvar. The price of hiring a speed boat for up to eight people to travel from Split to Hvar, for example, costs 2,600 kuna ($400).
Many delivery drivers for Deliveroo and Uber are part of the so-called ‘gig economy’, in which people can work simultaneously for different employers without fixed contracts.
