Delta Flight 5319 took off from Norfolk to Detroit at 10:59 a.m. (Local time) and was turned around and landed it safely at Norfolk International Airport.
Steve Sterling at Norfolk International said there were 62 people on board the flight, including crew and passengers. There has been no news of any injuries.
A passenger from the plane shared her experience saying that she heard a loud noise once the plane left the gate. She could soon then smell smoke and the back of the cabin became hazy.

Delta said the plane re-departed for Detroit after a maintenance evaluation.
